18 May Moving! Moved! Pooped!

Brave writing next chapter without loved one meMoving!  Moved! Pooped! In one of my last videos I shared that my house sold and that I was getting ready to move.  Well, I moved.  And I lived through it.  I forgot how much work is involved in moving because the last time I moved was in 1987. I also quickly discovered that this was to be more than just moving from the house that my first husband Donald built for me and working through different memories and normal emotions—some good and some difficult and some filled with grief. (I will write more about this later.) It was also about sorting, saving, purging and giving away 29 years of stuff because we downsized.

After we arrived at the new house I realized that I needed to get rid of even more stuff because there is no space for all of my treasures.  We went from a 3 bedroom, 3 full bath, full basement, two car garage… large house on 5 acres with a pole barn to a 1000 square foot house, no basement, one car garage (and I just went out to bring my flowers in because it’s supposed to be too cold tonight to leave them out tonight and the garage door opener died… $$$ always something.) with a very small, but beautiful yard.  The good news is that it’s 5 houses from the beach and Lake Huron in a neighborhood with very nice people and I love it.  But I’m still sorting through stuff, including my books…  My office space is very small now—but very sweet.  It’s a good thing our church is having a garage sale in July because I have another pile of stuff ready to go my garage.

The other good thing is I discovered Hobby Lobby.  Brighton Michigan needs a Hobby Lobby.  What a find and its 10 minutes from new my house…

The other thing I learned is that moving is expensive.  At least this move was.  We don’t smoke and the people who we bought the from house do.  Washing walls, sealing walls and new paint, new carpet, furniture that fits new room sizes… and of course new items from Hobby Lobby.  The good news is the smell is almost gone.  I’m also thinking about looking into a job at Hobby Lobby…
